24th of December

from And every fleck of russet by Bob Gluck

/

about

“24 of December,” track seven of "And every fleck of russet," is the second multi-section-work on the album. It introduces Bob Gluck as an (electronic) drummer. Nearly a minute in, the piano declares this work’s melodic theme which gradually shifts from somber to exuberant. The main nine-note melodic pattern transforms into a ostinato, joined by a soloistic bass line, above which a solo emerges, played on a pitch-bending, single voice dulcimer, followed by a piano solo. Piano, bass, and dulcimer engage in call and response interplay, followed by a return of the ostinato and a drum solo. The closing section of “24 of December” places the melodic motif in the voice of the dulcimer, bringing the track to a conclusion.
